Akkon University of Applied Sciences is a private, state-recognized university based in Berlin with a focus on nursing and medicine, civil protection, humanitarian aid as well as education and social matters. The Institute for Research in International Assistance (IRIA), founded in 2018, is an (in-)institute of Akkon University and bundles thematic priorities of applied research for humanitarian aid and development cooperation. As a competence centre in the Global Health network, IRIA is active worldwide with effective contributions to improving global health tackling areas - in dialogue with science, politics and international partners.

We are currently seeking:

2 Research Associates (full time & part time: 50%)

Period: May 15th, 2025 until October 15th, 2026

to join our project team:

"Rebuilding resilience in Yemen: Supporting mental health and wellbeing for vulnerable populations and promoting inclusive, gender-sensitive approaches to healthcare"

Your responsibilities

  • Project management and implementation in close collaboration with the project lead and international partners (e.g., GIZ, Yemeni NGOs).
  • Implementation of gender-sensitive and inclusive approaches; active support of vulnerable groups.
  • Organization and facilitation of workshops, training sessions, awareness and anti-stigma campaigns, community-based psychosocial support, etc.
  • Development of podcasts, training materials, and mental health modules adapted to local needs.
  • Communication and coordination with project stakeholders in Yemen and Germany.
  • Reporting on project performance indicators using appropriate systems, tools, and techniques.
  • Monitoring and evaluation; publication.

Your profile

  • University degree in psychology, public health, medicine, social sciences, or related fields.
  • Experience in international development or humanitarian assistance projects is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with mental health or psychosocial support (MHPSS) topics and vulnerable groups.
  • Experience of working in a fragile context, ideally in Yemen.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Business fluent in English and Arabic; German would be helpful.
