A major topic currently has been the introduction of Pillar Two, i.e., the global minimum taxation, especially in all audits. How will this be enforced and how will it be presented in the balance sheets?

Through my time at Deloitte, I have also grown significantly personally, for example, I was an intern myself just a year ago. Last month, we received a new working student whom I have now trained. This has shown me a bit of my personal development in how I have furthered my education.

Deloitte has 450,000 employees worldwide, so you might think it's huge. But in my team, I immediately noticed how familiar it actually is. We are about 20 people, everyone is on a first-name basis.

Jobcast with Dörte from Global Employer Services

Dörte: Global Employer Services essentially revolves around supporting employers and employees in managing their employees on international assignments. This can mean, on the one hand, fulfilling payroll tax obligations. But it also involves labor law, immigration issues, and social security.

Host: You're listening to Dörte from Deloitte, who works in Global Employer Services and tells you about her workday.

Dörte: I focus primarily on the income tax of individual employees. So, my team and I ensure that the employee knows what tax implications to expect before the secondment begins. We cover the German side, and our US colleagues handle the US side, for example.

We once received a request from a British sports club that was organizing a friendly match in Germany. They wanted to know exactly what they needed to fulfill from a tax perspective for their players, who are also employees in this context. Such requests don't come in daily. This was an area where I wasn't very confident, and I had to completely re-familiarize myself with a completely different tax. But in the end, it was very exciting to work out the result with this sports club and to be able to conclude the case. Jobcast with Kathrin from Business Process Solutions

Kathrin: I'm currently working on a travel expense brochure - general information for clients - together with colleagues from other locations. This means you have your team on-site but are also in exchange across different branches.

Host: You're listening to Kathrin, who works in Business Process Solutions at Deloitte and tells you about her workday.

Kathrin: In our department, we do everything - from payroll, accounting for our clients, VAT pre-payments, corporate and private tax returns, annual financial statements, ad-hoc requests, to handling audits by the tax authorities or social security institutions. Basically, we do everything a tax advisor actually does, but within the corporate group. We always have the opportunity to access various specialist teams within our service lines to obtain the necessary expertise.

We are networked through Teams in various groups, where you also regularly receive newsletters - for example, Tax newsletters or HR-Payroll newsletters. These contain planned changes that you can review to say: "Okay, this specifically affects my clients." Then you have to take care of it yourself. Everything that is made available to us - whether through learning platforms or other channels - must be used independently. You need to be very interested and always keep your eyes and ears open.

Your Responsibilities

As a Consultant / Manager International Remote Work (m/f/d), you will specialize in advisory and coordination. From mobile work to workation to foreign home offices, you will cover coordination and consulting related to international remote work.

  • International Consulting: Whether HR, Global Mobility, or Tax departments - you are the first point of contact for our clients and their internationally deployed specialists.
  • Service Orientation: You successfully identify and coordinate the necessary services such as social security, tax, or immigration.
  • Top Processes: You coordinate all compliance areas such as tax, social security, PWD registrations, and immigration. Proficient in Germany as well as internationally.
  • Teamwork: You work hand-in-hand with our foreign Deloitte offices to ensure optimal global consulting for our clients at all times.
  • Variety of Tasks: And when it comes to tenders, you contribute important impulses in the preparation, pricing, and presentation of the offer.

We want to make working at Deloitte as attractive and flexible as possible. Therefore, we enable working from anywhere in Germany as well as from various (EU) countries, subject to certain guidelines. Our international network combines the expertise of around 457,000 employees from over 150 countries. We stand for global competence, trust, innovation, and strong cohesion. We invest heavily in the further training and systematic development of our employees' skills and key qualifications so that they become the best in their field. We are committed to an open corporate culture that promotes diversity and trust. Collegiality and integrity are paramount, and the Deloitte team spirit is actively fostered. We want to make working at Deloitte as attractive and flexible as possible. Therefore, we enable working from anywhere in Germany as well as from various (EU) countries, subject to certain guidelines.

Magdalena: I am in the Service Line Indirect Tax and specifically in the VAT team. This means I advise clients on German VAT law. Currently, I have clients that are professional sports clubs, amusement park operators, and pharmaceutical companies, and currently a very exciting topic: electromobility.

Host: You're listening to Magdalena from Deloitte, who works in Indirect Tax and tells you about her workday.

Magdalena: So, in the electricity sector, we often have supply chains. This means that the person who "produces" it doesn't deliver it directly to the end customer, but there are many intermediaries involved. If the company is based in the Netherlands, for example, but the electricity is used in Germany, then you have to figure out: Where is the place of supply? And then we have the issue: Where is the VAT payable?

For me personally as a lawyer, it's interesting that you are supported in the tax advisor training by receiving financial support and simultaneous release from work. That's very helpful. We receive a weekly newsletter that applies to all tax law. Additionally, we have so-called Global Indirect Tax News, which helps you keep up with developments abroad.

Especially now as a new manager, I receive a lot of input. I have regular training, and of course, I try to further my professional development and attend all webcasts offered - not only internally but also for clients. This allows you to broaden your horizons and not just deal with your own jurisdiction. For example, next week I'll be in Paris at the University and will have the opportunity to network with other managers from different locations and countries. You always keep moving.

Your Profile

  • Enjoy complex tasks - conceptual thinking, systematic approach.
  • Skillful and engaging in dealing with people of different nationalities due to good communication and interaction skills.

What awaits you in tax consulting

In the Tax business area, a wide range of tasks awaits you - from determining the optimal legal form for companies, tax risk consulting in M&A processes, and cross-border tax issues to supporting transfer pricing and clarifying tax law issues. Numbers, laws, and team spirit - in the Business Tax area at Deloitte, passion for numbers translates into real responsibility. Liam talks about how the dynamics in the tax field inspire him. Because you never stop learning and grow with every project. From intern to consultant - and in the middle of it, large projects like auditing a DAX corporation. Do you want to be part of a journey that will advance you personally and professionally? 0:00 0:00 Liam Business Tax Professional, Liam: What excites me is the connection between numbers and the law, because I'm also a numbers nerd, and I like being in a dynamic environment, and the tax field is always exciting because things are always changing. You always have to stay up-to-date, which means you never stop learning, and that's what I really like.

I think the biggest challenge when you join us is that none of these details are taught in any tax advisor exam or university. However, we have developed internal training courses that cover this well and enable every employee who deals with the topic anew to get started relatively quickly and become a fully-fledged team member. Meike is a tax advisor in Business Tax. She reports on an exciting project with the Forensic department, where she deals with specifics of tax (criminal) law and gains valuable insights into various legal areas through cooperation with other law firms. She also explains the advantages of working at Deloitte compared to a smaller firm.

0:00 0:00 Meike Business Tax Senior Manager, Meike: A very, very exciting project that we are currently working on with Forensics. The colleagues from Forensics conduct forensic investigations into individual cases, and our task is to assess these individual cases in terms of corporate tax so that we can achieve a deduction of business expenses, if possible. Of course, there are always many exceptions. Our assessments also refer to relevant BFH rulings, some of which are widely known, but some are still unknown. This goes much further, as we also work with other law firms that handle the purely criminal law aspects. These are, of course, incredibly valuable insights into the various individual legal areas.

In Tax Audit Support, the goal is definitely to standardize more, making the workflow easier - especially for new colleagues who join. In the Business Tax area, we are focused on providing holistic support to companies beyond just preparing tax returns. In the Operate area, the plan is to support companies in optimizing their processes.

I am very positively surprised that there are fewer regulations - also from German society - on how projects can be approached. To put it bluntly: You can just do it. If you disclose the added value for the company, for the clients, and ideally also for the colleagues, it is absolutely supported.

In a smaller firm, you usually do everything - from accounting to tax return preparation to the annual financial statements. In a Big Four like Deloitte, you can specialize very well in activities that you enjoy greatly. Therefore, I would encourage everyone to consider in which area their strengths lie, where they would like to develop them, and then apply for a specific position accordingly. Kathrin from Business Process Solutions provides insights into her broad field of work in tax consulting - from payroll and accounting to VAT pre-payments and annual financial statements. Learn how she manages to continuously train herself to stay up-to-date and how digitalization has changed the profession of a tax advisor.

0:00 0:00 Kathrin Business Process Solutions Manager, The way of working has completely changed due to digitalization. Previously, we had cabinets full of folders with paper. Today, we have a platform where payroll for various branches of our clients is centralized globally. Colleagues from different countries can access this platform, and clients also have access with the appropriate permissions. This makes our work very versatile - both through the structures and legal forms of the clients and through the activities we perform. What makes the work in Indirect Tax so versatile? Magdalena gives exciting insights into her workday in the Jobcast, where she advises clients in areas such as professional sports, pharmaceuticals, and electromobility on German VAT law. Also, learn how Magdalena is supported as a new manager and benefits from opportunities like Deloitte University in Paris.

0:00 0:00 Magdalena Indirect Tax Manager, How do you combine tax law, business informatics, and data analysis to create more fairness in tax legislation? Justin provides exciting insights into his versatile workday in the Jobcast. With a clear goal in mind, Justin ensures that data is not only used for compliance and risk minimization but also opens up opportunities. He acts as a bridge builder between taxpayers, IT, and auditors - and shows how data-based solutions can make a difference.
