General Automation QA Engineer (m/w/d)
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a General Automation QA Engineer in Germany. This role offers the opportunity to strengthen product quality across the entire development lifecycle in a highly collaborative, engineering-driven environment. You will act as a key quality partner between QA and development teams, ensuring both manual and automated testing practices are robust, scalable, and effective. The work spans automation, functional testing, and quality engineering, with a strong emphasis on improving coverage, reducing flakiness, and increasing confidence in releases. You will contribute directly to test strategy, helping define how quality is embedded into products from early design through production. Working remotely in a distributed international team, you will engage closely with engineers, product stakeholders, and QA peers. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who combines technical automation expertise with strong analytical thinking and a proactive quality mindset.
Accountabilities
- Perform both manual and automated testing across functional, integration, API, and system-level scenarios to ensure end-to-end product quality.
- Design, write, maintain, and enhance automated test suites using PHP and Codeception, ensuring scalability and reliability.
- Review developer-written tests (unit, functional, and integration) and provide constructive feedback on coverage gaps and quality improvements.
- Analyse requirements and contribute to test case design, ensuring full alignment between business needs and test coverage.
- Investigate issues using logs, databases, and technical tools to support effective debugging and root cause analysis.
- Contribute to the overall QA strategy by defining efficient testing approaches and best practices across product areas.
- Improve test stability by identifying and reducing flaky tests and strengthening automation frameworks.
- Maintain test documentation, bug reports, and QA artifacts in tools such as ClickUp and Qase.
- Analyse test results using reporting tools such as Allure and provide insights to improve transparency and quality visibility.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to continuously improve testing standards, automation coverage, and release confidence.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in QA, including at least 3+ years in test automation roles.
- Strong hands-on experience in test automation using PHP and familiarity with frameworks such as Codeception.
- Solid understanding of manual testing, including functional and exploratory testing methodologies.
- Proven ability to design effective test cases based on requirements and system behaviour.
- Experience reviewing automated tests and identifying gaps in coverage and implementation quality.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to work with logs, databases, and debugging tools during investigations.
- Experience with QA tools such as ClickUp, Qase, Allure, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with CI/CD workflows, version control, and modern software delivery practices.
- Exposure to AI-assisted testing tools for improving automation efficiency and test generation.
- Strong communication skills with a proactive, detail-oriented, and ownership-driven mindset.
- Fluent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Nice to have: experience with Playwright, PostgreSQL, Docker, microservices architectures, and ISTQB certification.
Benefits
- Fully remote-first working environment with global flexibility.
- Paid time off to support rest, balance, and personal wellbeing.
- Learning and development support including training, certifications, and conferences.
- Home office budget for equipment and workspace setup.
- Health and medical coverage, including dental and mental health support options.
- Physical wellbeing support such as gym memberships, fitness programs, or equipment reimbursement.
- Unlimited sick leave to prioritise health and recovery.
- Co-working space reimbursement for flexible work environments.
- Team culture initiatives including events, retreats, and virtual activities.
