Business Development Manager -- Environmental & Water Analysis
North Rhine-Westphalia | Remote / Home Office | Permanent, Full-Time
Environmental testing is a critical infrastructure service. Clean water, safe land and compliant waste streams, each one depends on laboratories and the scientists who serve them. But without the right person connecting those laboratories to the engineering firms, recyclers, and public bodies that need them, even the best analysis capability sits idle.
This is a rare chance to join one of Europe's leading laboratory analysis groups in a sales role covering North Rhine-Westphalia. One of Germany's most industrially dense and environmentally regulated regions. You will have the territory, the tools, and the backing of an established pan-European lab network. What's needed is the right person to drive it.
The Role:
Working remotely from anywhere across NRW, you will take ownership of a defined territory and build a client base across three commercially rich sectors: engineering geology, recycling and waste management, and the public sector. You are the face of a laboratory group trusted for precision. Your role is to translate that technical credibility into long-term commercial relationships.
- New business development - identifying, approaching, and winning clients in your target sectors
- Expert-led consultative selling - visiting clients and designing bespoke analysis solutions
- Tender management - preparing competitive bids and converting them into long-term contracts
- Sales planning and performance management - setting your own targets, tracking KPIs, and adjusting your approach to stay on course
- Close collaboration with laboratory teams and internal customer service to ensure every client experience reflects the group's quality standards
- Regular reporting to the leadership team as a valued member of the Environmental Sales team
You will be supported by modern service tools, a dedicated support team, and a business with the infrastructure and reputation to open doors.
You do not need to be a seasoned sales professional. What matters is that you understand the technical world your clients operate in and that you're ready to build real commercial relationships within it.
Essential:
- Degree-level qualification in environmental sciences, natural sciences, or a related discipline or relevant professional experience that demonstrates equivalent grounding
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in environmental/water analysis or in sales, ideally with exposure to both
- Genuine enthusiasm for selling; you are someone who finds energy in client contact
- Strong customer focus and a confident, reliable manner that builds trust quickly
- Excellent written and spoken German; this is a client-facing role in a German-speaking market
- Solid IT literacy, including MS Office and standard CRM/reporting tools
Career Changers Welcome:
If your background is primarily technical in laboratory work, environmental consultancy, or waste and water management, and you are ready to move into a commercial role, we want to hear from you. Sales experience is valuable; deep sector knowledge is equally so.
This role comes with a package designed to reflect the seniority and commercial accountability of the position:
- Salary with bonus
- Full remote/home-office working from day one
- Flexible working hours by arrangement
- Dedicated assistant support to free up your selling time
- Thorough onboarding and ongoing support from an experienced and collegial sales team
- A permanent, full-time contract with a financially stable employer in a structurally resilient sector
- The chance to contribute to services that genuinely matter - clean water, safe land, compliant environments
The group operates multiple laboratory locations across Germany and has built its reputation on analytical precision and service reliability. These values make the sales conversation significantly easier when you are in front of a client!
NRW is one of the group's priority growth territories for environmental and water analysis. You will not be starting from scratch as there is an existing client base, established lab infrastructure, and internal support behind you.
Ready to Make Your Move?
If this role matches where you are headed - technically grounded, commercially motivated, and ready to own a territory, we would welcome a conversation.
