About the University of the Arts Berlin

Role Overview

Due to its history, UdK Berlin is spread across approximately 20 buildings in Berlin, primarily in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district. The space portfolio is characterized by many specific rooms where teaching and research for individual art disciplines are conducted. UdK aims to further optimize space utilization and enable or enhance interdisciplinary use of rooms. A room booking system, specifically developed for art universities, is already established at several locations and is to be further developed.

The advertised position is funded by the "Lehrarchitektur" program of the Foundation for Innovation in University Teaching. The goal of the funded project is to create a university-wide, transferable incentive system for interdisciplinary dialogue, in which the issue of space plays a crucial role.

Responsibilities:

  • Development of concepts for university management and the Department of Construction and Real Estate for the implementation of strategic space management.
  • Identification of suitable spaces for faculty- and department-spanning room utilization, with a focus on enabling interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Support for the process of centralized room allocation, focusing on interdisciplinary room use while considering accessibility and usability of the premises.
  • Expansion of the use of the existing room booking program in collaboration with all stakeholders.
  • Systematization of existing space data.
  • Identification and procurement of missing data; support in procurement is provided by the Department of Construction and Real Estate.
  • Coordination with users regarding specific space requirements.
  • Development of processes for automated analysis of room utilization.
  • Point of contact within the Department of Construction and Real Estate for operational tasks in space management.

Requirements:

  • Completed relevant university degree (BA/FH-Diplom) in fields such as Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or Facility Management, or comparable skills and experience.
  • Several years of relevant professional experience in facility management or process management.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Analytical, holistic, and cross-departmental thinking, as well as experience working at interfaces.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with members of all status groups.
  • Proficient in MS Office and willingness to quickly learn the existing room booking program.
  • Hands-on mentality.
  • Cost awareness and economic thinking.
  • Confident communication skills in German (written and spoken); English skills are desirable.
  • Diversity competence in dealing with various users (lecturers, students, employees) and in handling accessibility.
  • Interest in art and culture and understanding of specific needs.
  • Confident and friendly demeanor.
