About this job
As our Inland Supply Trader (m/f/d), you will be at the core of optimizing our value chain in the fuel sector. Our team ensures that we achieve the best possible net revenue for our refineries, secure the most economical and reliable supply for our marketing business, and manage the price risk of our German business. In addition to our own production, we also source our products domestically and from global markets. Together with your colleagues, you will be responsible for the procurement of gasoline, diesel, heating oil, and jet fuel, as well as for the commercial optimization of supply flows in Germany.
You will not only manage your own portfolio of major business partners but also take responsibility for parts of VARO Energy's overall price risk management in Germany. In continuous coordination with other colleagues, you will shape our overarching supply and trading strategy to align it with our procurement portfolio, our hedging strategy, and VARO's strategic interests. Together with colleagues from the Renewables Desk, you will explore opportunities to combine mineral oil, biofuels, and other renewable products.
The position we offer has a special focus on Germany, one of Europe's largest and most dynamic inland markets, as well as Austria. The VARO Group is also commercially active in many other neighboring countries, offering numerous opportunities for cross-border optimization. In this context, you will be in regular contact with our teams in Rotterdam and Baar.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Procurement of products for our marketing and trading departments to ensure product availability in line with our trading strategy
- Commercial optimization of product flows and net revenues of our refinery
- Management of our physical position and price risks in line with market structure
- Negotiating and concluding contracts with external partners for both spot and forward transactions. This includes large volume purchases and sales (e.g., ships and trains) as well as truckloads and product exchanges
- Leveraging VARO's extensive expertise in mineral oils and renewable energies to increase value creation across our entire value chain
- Managing the risk position for VARO Germany together with other Supply Traders, taking clear responsibility for profit and loss (P&L)
- Continuous improvement and steering of the trading strategy together with other Supply Traders, the Pricing & Optimisation Manager, and our other trading departments
- Contributing local market knowledge to group-wide internal discussions on trading and risk strategies
- Maintaining close cross-border collaboration with our colleagues in Switzerland and the Netherlands
Your Profile
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification with at least 4 years of relevant professional experience in the oil industry, preferably in the German market
- Sound knowledge of risk management, trading, and hedging principles
- Ideally, familiarity with relevant logistics and supply operations in Germany
- Previous experience in the renewable energy sector is an advantage
- Familiarity with the concept of optimizing the fuel value chain is desirable
- Fluent German and English (written and spoken)
