Job Summary

As a Rail Optimization Specialist (m/w/d), you will ensure the permanent, timely, and cost-effective supply of mineral oil finished products to the tank farms used by us throughout Germany. You will create inventory, supply, and capacity planning, and based on this, optimize logistics, inventory targets, and fleet utilization. As part of an international, entrepreneurially thinking team, you will maintain active information exchange with your colleagues within the entire VARO Group and with our trading and logistics partners. You will also be closely involved in planning and logistics processes.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Making short-term transport decisions (charter/lease)
  • Optimizing logistics to achieve inventory targets, optimize margin, and fleet utilization
  • Deciding on the optimal transport method, volume, and supply source for implementation

Your Profile

  • You have successfully completed your studies or vocational training in the commercial, supply chain, or logistics field. Ideally, you already have professional experience in logistics or supply chain management – preferably in the mineral oil industry.
  • You ideally have initial experience in rail or shipping logistics.
  • You possess the ability to communicate bindingly, friendly, and clearly, and you are an enthusiastic team player.
  • You enjoy working in cross-functional teams.
  • You take initiative and act with personal responsibility, independence, and structure. You also think analytically, proactively, and, above all, solution-oriented in a rapidly changing market environment.
  • You have experience with ERP and EPRM systems and ideally have knowledge of JD Edwards (Oracle).
  • Your communication skills are complemented by fluent German and English language skills.

Our Offer

  • Become part of a company that not only accompanies the energy transition but actively drives it forward.
  • An attractive remuneration package including a bonus program.
  • A central location in Hamburg's Hafencity with an ergonomic workplace, modern equipment, and regular sports and team activities.
  • Work in an international team with short communication lines, ample exchange, and a strong network.
  • A flexible working hours model with the possibility of mobile working and individually designed working hours.
  • We support your onboarding with individual training and offer long-term prospects. Additionally, our VARO Learning Galaxy supports you with numerous opportunities for professional and personal development.
  • More security for your family and yourself: We cover accident and survivor insurance, as well as a purely employer-financed company pension plan.

  • For energy in between: free drinks and a subsidized Foodji vending machine in the Hamburg office.
  • Professional advice and coaching offers through the Fürstenberg Institute – for professional and personal topics.
