About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Senior IT System Engineer / IT Operations (m/w/d) to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for maintaining the stability, security, and scalability of our critical infrastructure. As a senior member of our IT department, you will oversee the entire technical environment, from physical hardware housed in our data centers to modern container-based architectures and cloud-native solutions. Your expertise will ensure our large-scale e-commerce platform operates without downtime, supporting millions of transactions daily. You will serve as the final escalation point for complex technical issues and play a key role in designing secure, high-performance systems that integrate traditional enterprise infrastructure with cutting-edge cloud and AI technologies.
Qualifications
- Multiple years of professional experience in 3rd Level Support or system administration within mission-critical environments, ideally in e-commerce or web hosting sectors.
- Hands-on experience managing hardware in data centers, with deep expertise in virtualization technologies such as Hyper-V clusters and high-availability SQL Server environments.
- Strong knowledge of traffic management, load balancing solutions like HAProxy and HApee Enterprise, and web security measures, particularly Akamai WAF.
- Proficiency in web server administration, including Nginx and IIS.
- Practical experience with container orchestration tools such as Kubernetes, Docker, and Podman, along with modern DevOps practices.
- Solid understanding of network segmentation (VLAN), firewall management (Sophos), and backup strategies utilizing Veeam.
- Excellent scripting skills in PowerShell and Bash for automation tasks.
- Familiarity with enterprise monitoring tools like Datadog, Pingdom, and Wotan.
- Analytical mindset, resilience under critical system states, and a proactive, hands-on approach.
- Fluent German language skills (minimum C1 level) in speaking and writing.
Responsibilities
- Platform Operations & Infrastructure: Manage and maintain physical server infrastructure in our data centers, including architecture and administration of virtualization environments based on Microsoft Hyper-V, standalone hosts, and failover clusters.
- Backup & Disaster Recovery: Ensure data security and rapid recovery through Veeam Backup & Replication, establishing robust RTO and RPO scenarios.
- 3rd Level Support & Administration: Conduct in-depth troubleshooting and management of Microsoft infrastructure components, particularly Office 365 and Exchange Online.
- Monitoring & Alerting: Proactively monitor system health using tools such as Datadog, Wotan, and Pingdom. Define SLA metrics and develop alert workflows via webhooks, email, and SMS notifications.
- Infrastructure Documentation: Maintain precise and up-to-date network and system documentation in Netbox.
- Platform Performance & Security Engineering: Oversee traffic management and web security, including load balancing with HAProxy and security via Akamai WAF. Manage and optimize high-availability database clusters, web servers, and container orchestration platforms.
- Network & Security: Administer network infrastructure, including VLANs and firewalls, ensuring internal IT security and compliance.
- Automation & AI Integration: Develop automation solutions using PowerShell and Bash, and leverage AI tools like Claude Code to enhance operational efficiency. Support AI workloads such as Nvidia Spark.
