Overview

A highly successful, global commodities and energy trading firm is seeking a Full-Stack Engineer to join its Trading & Commercial Technology team in Berlin.

Operating an asset-light, technology-driven trading model, the organisation leverages advanced analytics, quantitative research, and strong risk management practices to support renewable energy and commodities markets globally. Following a major acquisition in 2024, the firm has significantly expanded its energy trading and proprietary technology capabilities, particularly across renewable power optimisation and physical natural gas markets.

Role Overview

As a Full-Stack Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building and evolving core trading and data platforms. You'll work across the full technology stack --- developing responsive web applications in React and backend services in Python --- contributing to scalable, reliable systems that power real-time trading and data workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain trading web applications and microservices
• Build user-facing platforms to manage and visualise metering, trading and master data for renewable electricity assets
• Develop backend services and RESTful APIs in Python to support business logic, integrations and data processing
• Contribute to scalable, microservice-based architectures
• Drive continuous improvement of codebase, systems and engineering practices
• Participate in peer code reviews to maintain high standards of quality
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, traders, business analysts and data teams

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong experience building responsive web applications (PWAs) using JavaScript (ES6) / TypeScript with React (React Hooks)
• Solid backend development experience using Python, including RESTful APIs and microservices
• Experience working with relational and/or time-series databases
• Passion for clean, maintainable code and a test-driven approach
• Exposure to cloud-native, containerised environments (partly on-premise and partly AWS)
• Degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical experience

Desirable Experience

• Experience in energy, commodities or trading environments
• Experience building products for commercial users (traders, analysts, operations)
• Exposure to event-driven or distributed microservice architectures
• Experience translating business requirements into technical solutions
• Familiarity with component libraries such as Material UI, HighCharts or DevExtreme
