Medical Data Engineer & Developer (m/w/d) – Ophthalmologie
About Us
The Augentageskliniken MVZ is an innovative, supra-regional practice group with eleven locations in Central Hesse, specializing in cataract surgery. We perform outpatient eye surgeries in our operating centers in Frankfurt, Bad Nauheim, Gießen, and Kirchhain. We combine clinical excellence with scientific ambition and develop, for example, our own optimization models for IOL calculations.
We are looking for a versatile individual to join us as soon as possible, combining practice IT, data analysis, and research.
Your Responsibilities
Workflow Optimization & Practice IT
- Analysis and optimization of clinical and administrative workflows
- Linking practice EDP (Duria), biometric devices, and billing systems (DATEV)
- Development of evaluation tools for business controlling (performance statistics, resource planning, key figures)
- Automation of recurring processes (batch processing, report generation)
- Maintenance and further development of practice-internal web applications (PHP, JavaScript)
Scientific Data Analysis & Research
- Extraction and preparation of biometric and clinical data for studies and publications
- Statistical analysis and validation of IOL calculation models
- Development of predictive models using optimization methods (NLLS, machine learning)
- Automated integration of external IOL calculators via web automation and APIs
Modernization of Data Infrastructure
- Migration of existing Excel-based evaluations into professional, scalable programming solutions (Python, R, C++)
- Building a sustainable data architecture to link all practice systems
- Evaluation and integration of cloud services for backup, collaboration, and computing capacity
- Development of high-performance analysis pipelines for large datasets
IT Security & Data Protection
- Implementation of IT security principles in the medical environment (access controls, encryption, audit trails)
- Ensuring GDPR compliance in data processing and storage
- Design of secure interfaces between internal and external systems
- Documentation and maintenance of security policies
Technology Stack
Programming & Analysis
- Python (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Selenium)
- R for statistical analyses
- PHP for web applications
- SQL/MySQL for database queries
- C++ for performance-critical calculations
Development Tools & Workflow
- Git/GitHub for version control
- Docker for containerized applications
- VS Code, PyCharm, or comparable IDEs
- Jupyter Notebooks for exploratory analyses
Cloud & Infrastructure
- Cloud services (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)
- Basic Linux knowledge (server, Bash)
- Backup and disaster recovery solutions
Web & Automation
- HTML, CSS, JavaScript
- Selenium for browser automation
- REST APIs for system integration
Your Profile
Education
- Degree or training in computer science, medical informatics, business informatics, physics, mathematics, or comparable qualification
- Enthusiastic career changers with demonstrable programming skills are also welcome
Technical Skills
- Knowledge in Python, R, SQL/MySQL, PHP, JavaScript, API development, XML data processing
- Experience with version control (Git)
- Basic knowledge in statistics and data management/analysis
- Knowledge of cloud services and containerized environments is desirable
- Understanding of IT security and data protection (GDPR)
- Knowledge of higher mathematics (algebra, vector calculus, geometry) and optics is welcome
Personal Competencies
- Analytical thinking skills and enjoyment of problem-solving
- Ability to understand both business and scientific requirements
- Independent, structured way of working
- Willingness to learn medical topics (ophthalmology, optics)
- Strong communication skills when dealing with clinical staff
Framework Conditions
Team
- Existing IT team focusing on hardware, network technology, and medical technology/peripherals. You will complement this team in the areas of software development, data analysis, and system integration.
- Small, interdisciplinary structure (direct exchange with practice management and medical staff)
Working Hours
- Full-time or part-time possible, flexible working hours
Salary
- Very attractive, above-average remuneration (depending on qualifications and experience) (part-time pro-rata)
Work Location
- On-site at the practice (office workplace in Gießen) with a home office component by arrangement
