About Us

The Chair of Ergonomics, led by Prof. Dr. Klaus Bengler, is a research and teaching group within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). With approximately 25 staff members, we focus on the design and evaluation of human-machine interactions and complex socio-technical systems. Our Automated Driving Research Group specifically investigates user interaction with automated vehicles, the design of control center and teleoperation concepts, and sustainable mobility solutions for public transportation, with a strong emphasis on the technical supervision of automated vehicle fleets and the organization of future work.

Your Responsibilities

As a Research Assistant in the Automated Driving research group, you will:

  • Participate in research projects focused on teleoperation design and the technical supervision of automated vehicle fleets.
  • Contribute to the further development and technical support of a tele-assistance and control center simulator.
  • Design, implement, and conduct simulator studies.
  • Analyze performance, reliability, and organizational aspects of automated systems.
  • Assist with the teaching duties of the Chair of Ergonomics.
  • Collaborate on applications for publicly funded research grants.
  • Publish research findings in relevant scientific journals and conferences.
  • Have the opportunity to pursue a Ph.D.

Your Profile

We are seeking a motivated individual who enjoys independent work, driving new ideas, and acquiring new skills. You will mentor students in research projects and courses, fostering a supportive learning environment. Essential qualifications include:

  • A completed Master's degree with a technical or cognitive psychology background (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Transportation Planning, Human Factors Engineering, Psychology) with an overall grade better than 2.5.
  • Excellent programming skills in languages such as Python, JavaScript/Angular/Electron, C++, or comparable.
  • Experience in developing simulation environments or experimental software platforms.
  • Ideally, familiarity with driving simulation software (e.g., SILAB).
  • Experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating empirical studies.
  • Strong teamwork, structured work approach, and excellent communication skills.
  • A genuine interest in scientific work and publishing.
  • Fluency in both German and English is required.
