Engineering Manager - Payments

We are seeking a talented and experienced Engineering Manager to lead the Payments team. This team is vital for ensuring a seamless, secure, and high-performing checkout experience for our customers. The role involves overseeing the entire software development lifecycle, from ideation to deployment, in close collaboration with Product Managers and cross-functional teams.

What you'll do:

  • Lead an empowered team in designing, building, and scaling Emma's technology platform to solidify our position as a global leader in sleep comfort products. Your contributions will directly influence customer experience and product quality.
  • Take ownership of team delivery, ensuring predictable progress by proactively identifying and mitigating risks. Maintain clear and timely communication with stakeholders.
  • Drive the technical roadmap for the payments domain, focusing on scalable, reliable, and future-proof architectures for checkout and payment services.
  • Manage key payment-related metrics, including payment success rate, failure rate, authorization decline rate, and chargeback rate.
  • Ensure system reliability and effective incident management. Proactively identify, coordinate, and mitigate risks to minimize transaction failures and downtime.
  • Collaborate with senior and staff engineers to uphold technical excellence in architecture and software through active participation in design documentation, pair programming, and code reviews.
  • Coach, mentor, and support team members to reach their full potential, cultivating a high-performance culture through defined roles, career development, and regular feedback.

Who we're looking for:

  • Deep expertise in payments, e-commerce, or fintech, with experience in checkout and payment gateways.
  • Strong understanding of payment processing flows, including authorization, capture, refunds, and reconciliation.
  • Proven technical leadership experience with modern tech stacks, preferably including AWS, JavaScript/TypeScript, Golang, or other backend technologies.
  • Exceptional people management skills, with a focus on inclusivity and psychological safety, and a demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams.
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, computer or electrical engineering, business informatics, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Highly proactive, resourceful, and possessing a strong sense of ownership, with the ability to solve complex business problems through technology.
  • Strong analytical skills, business acumen, and an open-minded, creative approach to teamwork, characterized by direct communication and genuine care.
