Principal Civil Engineer (m/w/d) (Bergbautechnologe/-technologin - Tiefbautechnik)
Location: Erlangen, Germany

Main Responsibilities
- Technical leadership and support of the Civil Engineering team, guiding senior and junior engineers, and coordinating with lead engineers and designers.
- Ensuring adherence to and continuous improvement of discipline procedures, standards, calculation methods, templates, and guidelines.
- Fostering employee development through coaching, technical training, knowledge sharing, and performance reviews.
- Supporting the Discipline Manager in interviews and workforce planning.
- Technical leadership of the civil engineering scope across all project phases (concept, FEED, and detail design).
- Independent management of project tasks, solving technical challenges, and ensuring alignment with contracts, specifications, schedules, and interdisciplinary requirements.
- Close collaboration with other disciplines, client engineering, and project management teams.
- Participation in kick-off, design review, vendor, workshop, 3D model, constructability, safety, and client meetings.
- Creation and review of structural and civil analyses, reports, and calculations, including foundation, piling, and drainage systems.
- Application of sound knowledge in geotechnics, steel, and reinforced concrete construction.
- Conducting FEED verifications, gap analyses, and ensuring the technical integrity and conformity of all engineering services.
- Review and approval of design basis documents, concepts, specifications, reports, calculations, and procedures.
- Review and approval of vendor and subcontractor documents, ensuring design quality through technical and interdisciplinary reviews.
- Ensuring the quality and auditability of all civil engineering deliverables.
- Evaluation, communication, and management of design changes, considering project impacts.
- Conducting technical quality audits and ensuring compliance with Fluence safety KPIs.
- Capturing "Lessons Learned" and maintaining documentation in the Fluence Lessons Learned System.
- Preparation of cost estimates for bid projects, including technical clarifications, execution concepts, software requirements, and hour calculations.
- Contribution to the finalization of equipment lists and ensuring compliance with project-specific requirements.
- Supporting construction management in resolving technical issues on site.
- Assisting with design clarifications, technical decisions, and coordination with site teams.
- Presenting design solutions, technical issues, and project status to internal teams and clients.
- Supporting the Lead Engineer in technical clarifications and negotiations with clients.
- Willingness to travel within the EMEA region and internationally.
Required Qualifications and Expertise
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
- Minimum of 15 years of professional experience with large contractors or engineering firms, focusing on EPC projects.
- Extensive experience in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) for complex civil and structural projects (e.g., substations, oil and gas projects, power plant construction).
- Very good knowledge of common software in civil and structural engineering (e.g., STAAD.Pro, ETABS, AutoCAD).
- Extensive experience in the design of special structures (e.g., high-voltage transformers, AIS & GIS substations, control buildings, pile foundations, cable trays, and cable trenches).
- Very good knowledge of norms, standards, and regulations applicable in the EMEA region.
- Strong technical skills and experience in solving complex technical issues.
- Solution-oriented approach to work.
- Very good communication skills.
- Excellent skills in project coordination, supervision, and execution.
- In-depth knowledge of the detail engineering process.
- Fluent German and English language skills.
