Service Architect

Freelance Service Architect | RDS Development | Defense | Part-time | 4-month Contract

Our client is seeking an experienced Service Architect to take full responsibility for the architecture, design, and further development of Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (RDS). The role focuses on defining a secure and scalable target architecture, translating business requirements into technical architecture concepts, and steering DSC-based automation in close alignment with the development team. This is a part-time (50%) freelance contract, fully remote within Germany / EU, for a four-month contract (extension possible).

Key Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end architecture, design, and continuous improvement of Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (RDS)
• Define and document a secure, scalable target architecture for RDS environments
• Translate functional and technical requirements into robust architecture concepts
• Create test cases to validate architecture and implementation quality
• Drive architectural alignment and governance for Desired State Configuration (DSC)-based automation together with two developers
• Ensure architecture decisions align with network, security, storage, and load balancing requirements

What You Bring

• German language skills at C1 level and English at B1 level (CEFR)
• Understanding of Desired State Configuration (DSC)
• Strong knowledge of load balancing, storage concepts, and network & security architectures
• At least 5 years of experience in architecting complex Microsoft RDS environments
• At least 5 years of experience in Windows Server infrastructure architecture, including Active Directory, Group Policy (GPO), and DNS
• Proven track record of translating business requirements into technical architecture solutions
• Strong experience in defining and implementing target architectures
