About Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.de) is one of the world's leading organizations for applied research. 75 institutes develop pioneering technologies for our economy and society - more precisely: 32,000 people from technology, science, administration, and IT. You know: Those who come to Fraunhofer want to make a difference and can do so. For themselves, for us, and for the markets of today and tomorrow.

In the field of optimization, we develop tailor-made solutions for complex and business-critical planning processes for our customers in industry, healthcare, and public services. Whether it's production planning, drinking water supply, or supply chain optimization - we rely on sound mathematical modeling and efficient solution methods to sustainably overcome real-world challenges. We bring our mathematical innovations into practice by developing our own software solutions that meet the individual requirements of our customers, thereby creating real added value.

Through close teamwork, continuous training, and a strong application focus, we actively shape the future of complex supply systems and support manufacturing companies in maintaining their material flows and production, even in the event of supply bottlenecks.

Your Impact

  • Development of mathematical models and optimization methods for robust supply chains
  • Exchange with customers to gather requirements and develop tailored solutions
  • Analysis and modeling of complex planning problems, often as network flow or mixed-integer programs
  • Development, implementation, and (simulative) testing of innovative algorithmic approaches
  • Joint development of software (including user interfaces) for interactive decision support, e.g., a platform for interactive supply chain analysis and optimization

Your Profile

  • University degree (Master's or PhD) in (Business) Mathematics or (Business) Computer Science
  • Ideally, specialization in discrete mathematics, mathematical programming, combinatorial optimization, operations research, network optimization, or the design of efficient algorithms
  • Willingness to apply mathematics in a practical way and to solve relevant problems for industry and society
  • Analytical thinking skills and the ability to quickly grasp and structure complex planning processes
  • Independent acquisition of new domain knowledge, supported and accompanied by experienced colleagues
  • Desire to shape things, willingness to take responsibility, and enjoyment in presenting your own ideas to the team and customers

What We Offer

  • Small teams with flat hierarchies and clear development goals
  • Opportunities for scientific publications and conference participation
  • Extensive training and development opportunities, especially in software development
  • Flexible working models, including part-time options and up to 40% home office per week after onboarding
  • Opportunity for a PhD

We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, worldview, disability, or sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled applicants will be given preferential consideration if equally qualified. Our tasks are diverse and adaptable - we will find solutions together for applicants with disabilities that optimally promote their abilities. With its focus on future-oriented key technologies and the exploitation of results in business and industry, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft plays a central role in the innovation process. As a guide and impulse generator for innovative developments and scientific excellence, it helps to shape our society and our future.

Ready for a change? Then apply now and make a difference! Upon receipt of your online application, you will receive an automatic confirmation of receipt. We will then get back to you as soon as possible to let you know the next steps.
