Your Role: Research Associate – Deep Learning for Speech and Audio Coding

Speech & Audio Coding Innovation
Contribute to state-of-the-art research in speech and audio coding. Investigate novel approaches to complex signal processing challenges, with a primary focus on speech and audio coding for communication applications.
Generative AI in Speech Coding
Explore advanced machine learning techniques, including generative AI methods like Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), diffusion-based models (e.g., DDPMs), and transformer architectures. Assess their suitability and impact for deep neural network-based speech and audio coding.
Data-driven Signal Processing
Study, develop, and apply new machine learning concepts for efficient representation and synthesis of speech and audio signals.
On-device Deployment
Translate advanced models into practical, real-time solutions optimized for resource-constrained mobile and embedded devices.
Your Profile
- A scientific degree (Master's, Ph.D., or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering Sciences, Media Technologies, or a related field.
- Expertise in machine learning and deep neural networks, with a focus on generative AI (e.g., GANs, diffusion-based models, transformers).
- A strong background in digital signal processing, particularly in speech and audio processing/analysis.
- Proficiency in Python and C/C++, along with experience in deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch).
- Fluency in English for effective collaboration within an international team.

Working Hours: 39 hours per week. Part-time employment is possible, ideally close to full-time. Contract: Initially limited to 2 years, with the possibility of extension. Compensation: Based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD).
