ruhrdot GmbH is a dynamic, up-and-coming Data & Analytics and ERP consultancy. Our mission is to get the most out of our clients' data and systems. As a Databricks, AWS, and Azure partner, we are at the forefront of technological possibilities. Our projects focus on Data Engineering, Data Strategy Development, and Science & AI. With our solutions, we build the technical foundation for high-performance IT landscapes and digitize, automate, and optimize our clients' processes.

Responsibilities

  • Requirements Engineering: Technical recording and analysis of complex customer requirements and their translation into scalable data architectures.
  • Architecture & Development: Conception and implementation of modern database structures, data models, and highly available data pipelines and backend applications.
  • Pipeline Operations: Automation and orchestration of workflows (CI/CD) to ensure maximum data quality and system stability in production operation.
  • Data Integration: Connection, transformation, and cleaning of heterogeneous data sources -- from REST APIs and flat files to complex relational and NoSQL database systems.
  • Agile Engineering: Active shaping of the development cycle in close coordination with clients and team colleagues using agile methods (prototyping, MVP development, sprints).

Requirements

  • Academic Foundation: Successfully completed studies in a STEM field (Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering) or a comparable qualification with a strong technical focus.
  • Practical Experience: You bring at least 3 years of solid professional experience in the active implementation of Data Engineering use cases.
  • Core Skills: In-depth knowledge of database modeling and the conception and implementation of ETL/ELT pipelines and modern data warehouse/lake structures.
  • Programming: You master SQL at an expert level and are proficient in at least one other programming language -- ideally Python.
  • Tech Stack & Cloud: You already have experience with modern data platforms such as Databricks or Snowflake and feel at home in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Knowledge of big data frameworks (e.g., Spark) is a big plus.
  • Agile Engineering: You are familiar with agile working methods (Scrum, Kanban) and know how to implement technical requirements in iterative sprints.
  • Your Personality: You work in a highly analytical and structured manner. Your work is characterized by reliability, personal responsibility, and a commitment to "Clean Code".

  • Innovation & Realization: With us, it doesn't stop at the concept. We offer you the freedom to evaluate the latest data stacks and bring innovative pipelines directly into production. 🎨
  • Culture of Transparency: We rely on honesty, technical feedback at eye level, and regular exchange to improve together -- and of course, we celebrate successes (preferably over a cold drink 🍻). 🫂
  • High-End Stack & Equipment: Work with Databricks, Spark, and the major cloud providers. We provide you with first-class equipment (premium notebooks & smartphones) so you can deliver maximum performance. 💻
  • Future Security & Flexibility: A secure job in a growth industry with attractive remuneration and flexible home office options for your ideal work-life balance. 🏠

Application Process

Your path into our team:

  • Step 1: Getting to Know Each Other (Culture Fit) After your application, we will invite you to an initial video call with our HR Manager, Jana. Here, we will have a casual exchange about your motivation and our company culture -- we want to find out if we are a good personal fit. (approx. 30 - 40 min.)
  • Step 2: Deep Dive (Technical Exchange) In the second round, we go in-depth. We prefer to invite you in person to our office in Essen (alternatively via video) to discuss technical concepts, your methodological approach, and initial project ideas with our founder and partner crew. (approx. 60 - 90 min.)
  • Step 3: Final Check (Optional) Quality and fit are important to us. In rare cases, we arrange a third, brief meeting to clarify specific open points or discuss final details about your future role.
  • Step 4: Welcome on Board! If everything fits, the final phase follows: We will make you an attractive contract offer and look forward to taking our clients' data strategies to the next level together with you. 🤝
