VP of Engineering (m/w/d)

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a VP of Engineering in Germany.

This senior leadership role sits at the core of a fast-scaling technology organization building AI-driven solutions for public infrastructure. You will define and execute the engineering vision, ensuring scalable, reliable, and high-quality systems that support rapid international growth. Leading Engineering, Platform, and Data Science, you will partner closely with product and technology leadership to translate ambitious product goals into robust delivery. The environment is highly dynamic, product-driven, and strongly focused on real-world impact. You will shape engineering culture, organizational design, and technical excellence across multiple teams. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineering leader who thrives at the intersection of strategy, execution, and innovation, particularly in AI-enabled product environments.

Accountabilities

  • Lead and scale Engineering, Platform, and Data Science functions, building strong leadership structures and high-performing teams.
  • Define and execute engineering strategy aligned with product and business goals, ensuring scalable architecture and reliable delivery.
  • Drive engineering execution with strong operating rhythms, ensuring efficient product trio collaboration from discovery to delivery.
  • Raise engineering standards across architecture, CI/CD, observability, security, and developer experience.
  • Build and scale a modern platform foundation while integrating AI-native tools and practices to improve productivity and quality.
  • Partner with Data Science and product leadership to integrate AI/ML capabilities into core product development.
  • Develop engineering managers and leaders, fostering a high-performance, accountable, and collaborative culture.

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading and scaling engineering organizations (30-70+ engineers) in a B2B SaaS or product-led environment.
  • Background as a senior engineering leader (VP Engineering, CTO, or similar), with strong hands-on technical foundation.
  • Demonstrated ability to bridge engineering, product, and business strategy with strong product mindset.
  • Experience working closely with Data Science/ML teams and integrating AI/ML into production systems.
  • Strong expertise in modern engineering practices including DevOps, CI/CD, cloud-native architecture, and scalable platforms.
  • Track record of building and mentoring engineering leaders and high-performing teams.
  • Strong communication, structured thinking, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Based in or willing to regularly travel to Berlin or Stuttgart.
