This is a high-impact role where you'll shape how engineering leadership operates as the company grows, putting the right structures in place without introducing unnecessary complexity.
The Role
This role is centred around building an effective engineering organisation through strong leadership, clear structures, and scalable ways of working.
Rather than being the central decision-maker, your focus will be on enabling others, creating an environment where Engineering Managers lead confidently, Tech Leads retain ownership, and teams can operate with clarity and autonomy.
You'll:
- Build and develop a strong layer of Engineering Managers
- Put in place frameworks that help teams align without slowing them down
- Create clarity around expectations, progression, and performance
- Ensure communication flows effectively across teams and leadership
- Bring visibility to delivery, risks, and areas that need attention
- Support long-term engineering health, including managing technical debt pragmatically
- Stay connected to the reality of teams through regular engagement, without micromanaging
What we're looking for
- Experience leading engineering in high-growth, product-led environments
- Proven ability to develop and manage Engineering Managers
- Track record of building structures that support autonomy and accountability
- Comfortable operating in evolving organisations where priorities shift and scale increases
- Strong focus on team effectiveness, delivery, and long-term sustainability
- Clear, direct communicator who can align both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Pragmatic approach, focused on outcomes over theory
- Experience in complex or regulated environments is beneficial
