At the State Institute for the Environment Baden-Württemberg (LUBW) in Karlsruhe, Department of "Technical Environmental Protection", a position is available in the senior civil service for a
Master (w/m/d) in Process Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Sciences, or a comparable field
in the "Air Quality, Immission Control" division, to commence as soon as possible, limited until February 29, 2028.
The LUBW is the competence center of the state of Baden-Württemberg for environmental and nature conservation, technical occupational safety, radiation protection, and product safety. We advise politics and administration in Baden-Württemberg on a variety of technical issues.
The field of activity includes technical support and advice for approval and monitoring authorities in the area of trade supervision (cities and districts, regional councils) and the Ministry of the Environment, as well as participation in projects.
In the Immission Control Competence Center, we combine scientific-technical expertise with the application of legal regulations for immission control law and air quality. We evaluate a wide range of projects and facilities such as small and medium-sized combustion plants, cement plants, foundries, asphalt mixing plants, combined heat and power plants, paper mills, smoking facilities, processing and transshipment facilities for dusty goods, and animal husbandry facilities regarding the state of the art, site issues, and neighbor complaints.
These interesting areas of responsibility await you, among others:
- Assessment of air pollutants from commercial and industrial plants, as well as emission reduction techniques and dispersion conditions for air pollutants.
- Processing of technical and legal issues related to plant-related immission control.
- Technical support for questions regarding the dispersion and modeling of air pollutants, immission forecasts, and the application of specialized programs for dispersion calculations.
- Participation in projects in the aforementioned areas of focus, including pyrolysis plants, AI-supported evaluations, and the further development of specialized programs for dispersion calculations.
- Development of work and enforcement aids for technical and approval authorities, e.g., for TA-Luft and 1. BImSchV.
- Participation in advanced training courses.
What you need to bring:
- Successfully completed studies (university diploma / master's degree or equivalent) in engineering, including process engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, or comparable fields, as well as natural sciences such as chemistry, physics, meteorology, environmental sciences, or comparable fields. Corresponding master's degrees not obtained at a university must be accredited for access to the senior civil service at the time of completion; proof must be provided by the applicant. For foreign degrees, a certificate assessment from the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB) must be submitted.
Furthermore, we expect from you:
- Good knowledge of physical and chemical relationships to independently handle issues of plant-related immission control.
- Knowledge of commercial and industrial activities, processes, and technologies that can generate air pollutants.
- Proficient use of Office programs.
- Enjoyment of working in a dedicated team.
- Dedicated, independent, and results-oriented way of working.
- Good communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Experience in the field of immission control, particularly in plant-related regulations for air quality, is an advantage.
- Ideally, you have experience with modeling the dispersion and spread of air pollutants and odors.
This position is also suitable for career starters.
