Job Description
We are looking for you for the Statistical Office of the State Capital Stuttgart. The positions are part-time (20% to 40%, a total of 85% is available) starting from March 2, 2026, and are initially limited until September 30, 2026, or December 31, 2026. An extension is planned.
The Statistical Office is a center of competence and a central service provider for data, analyses, and elections within the Stuttgart city administration. The area of work is part of the departments "Economy and Culture," "Data Science and Mobility Statistics," and "Local Surveys." Here, data and questions, e.g., on the labor market, companies, tourism, transport and mobility behavior, as well as on municipal surveys such as the rent index, are prepared and analyzed.
A Job That Excites You
- You actively contribute to creating a legally compliant, qualified rent index for Stuttgart by supporting the department management in all steps of the project, from sample selection and data collection to data evaluation.
- You evaluate data on topics from the fields of economy, labor market, mobility, and transport, as well as data from population surveys, based on scientific criteria, prepare it, and create statistical analyses, reports, interactive reporting, and visualizations.
- Identifying local challenges and developing scientific research questions relevant to the Stuttgart city administration, politics, and society are part of your responsibilities.
- Taking on special tasks, e.g., in the preparation and execution of elections or in business process management, completes your tasks.
A change or addition to the scope of duties is subject to change.
Your Profile That Fits Us
- A university degree (Bachelor's) completed with at least a "good" grade, and enrollment in a Master's program in Economics, Social Sciences, Statistics, or Data Science.
- Proven, in-depth knowledge in the application of the statistical software R, ideally also initial experience with the packages Shiny or Quarto or R Markdown.
- Relevant knowledge and experience in descriptive and inferential statistics or econometrics.
- Strong interest in and knowledge of the topics covered by the departments, especially economy, labor market, and mobility.
- Careful and confident handling of extensive data sets, e.g., survey data, and complex tasks.
- Very good oral and written communication skills in German (at least level C1), a systematic and independent way of working, and initiative.
