TIB, being part of the Leibniz Research Association, is with around 600 employees one of the largest technical information centres in Germany, having three main functions:

  1. Acting in the capacity of the Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology, our forward-looking services secure the infrastructural requirements for providing researchers in science and industry with high-quality information and literature.
  2. Carrying out cutting edge research to further expand TIB's role as a German information centre for the digitisation of science and technology.
  3. Offer library services for the Leibniz University Hannover.

Ihre Aufgaben

As a data engineer/ research data manager, you will be primarily responsible for the systematic acquisition of data from selected sources (including through web scraping), checking the licensing of secured data as well as the structured description and import of data into TIB systems such as long-term archiving and SciOp. You will work closely with stakeholders in US research agencies and potential data users, including those involved in National Research Data Infrastructures (NFDIs), to identify data security needs and opportunities. You will be able to apply your skills in handling large and complex data sets with a high degree of personal responsibility. In doing so, you will coordinate with the Research Data Services, Long-Term Archiving and Legal Department at the TIB. You will also provide helpful feedback on the operation and further development of SciOp at the TIB.

Your tasks include:

  • Systematic acquisition of freely accessible data sets, in particular from US research authorities and similar sources
  • Reviewing the licensing and reuse rights of data sets to be secured
  • Designing and implementing data description and conversion for target systems at the TIB (digital long-term archiving and SciOp)
  • Communication with stakeholders at US research agencies and potential data users, including in the context of NFDIs
  • Collaboration on the development of a sustainable, decentralized and openly networked infrastructure for the long-term preservation and resilience of endangered scientific and technological research data sets

Ihr Profil

  • Completed scientific university degree (Master's degree or equivalent), preferably in a relevant information science programme (e.g. library and information science, information management, data science)
  • Independent, goal-oriented approach to work
  • Proven experience in project work
  • Very good written and spoken English skills
  • Good communication and negotiation skills

Desirable additions to your profile

  • Experience with web scraping, processing/cleaning large data sets and/or scripting/ automation
  • Knowledge of digital long-term archiving
  • Knowledge of open licenses and FAIR research data management
  • Good German language skills

Wir bieten Ihnen

The position is initially limited until the end of the project period of the research project "Science & Heritage Infrastructure for Enduring Long-term Data (SHIELD)", funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), on 31st of December 2027. The regular weekly working time is 39.8 hours (full-time). The position is generally suitable for part-time work. The remuneration is based on pay scale group 13 TV-L.

  • A job in the public service oriented towards the common good on the basis of the collective agreement for the public service of the German states (TV-L) with a salary in pay scale group 13 TV-L.
