Overview

Our client is a major European aerospace and space technology group developing advanced satellite systems and payload solutions for institutional and commercial missions worldwide.

The organization contributes to large-scale European navigation, security, and Earth Observation programs, delivering highly reliable payload systems that combine cutting-edge engineering with rigorous performance and quality standards.

To support the continued expansion of its Navigation division, the company is seeking an experienced Senior Navigation Payload Systems Engineer to join its engineering team working on next-generation satellite payload programs.

Position Overview

The Senior Navigation Payload Systems Engineer will play a key role in the design, development, verification, and performance assessment of advanced satellite navigation payloads.

The position involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams, suppliers, customers, and institutional stakeholders across complex European space programs. The engineer will contribute to payload architecture definition, technical coordination, performance analysis, supplier management, and anomaly investigations throughout the full satellite lifecycle.

This is a highly technical and visible role with direct impact on mission performance, payload reliability, and future navigation system capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the design and development of next-generation satellite payload architectures, including architecture trade-offs and verification planning.
  • Coordinate requirements flow-down activities and specification writing for subsystems and equipment.
  • Review and assess supplier proposals and technical documentation.
  • Model and analyze payload performance parameters including RF power, signal performance, and clock frequency stability.
  • Support integration and test campaigns by analyzing payload performance and troubleshooting anomalies or non-conformances.
  • Assess technical impacts of anomalies and coordinate approvals with customers and stakeholders.
  • Participate in technical reviews with suppliers and customers including design, qualification, test readiness, acceptance, and post-test reviews.
  • Assess on-orbit payload performance and anomaly reports.
  • Support technical meetings and testing activities at supplier and customer sites across Europe.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge sharing, engineering methodologies, and technical tools development.

Projects & Environment

The engineer will contribute to major European navigation and security-related space programs, including next-generation satellite payload developments and institutional missions. Projects include advanced navigation systems and security-rated programs requiring high technical standards and long-term reliability.

The working environment is international, highly technical, and collaborative, with English as the primary working language. The position offers close interaction with experienced payload specialists and opportunities for long-term technical or managerial career development.

Candidate Profile

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, Signal Processing, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Systems Engineer within the space or satellite industry.
  • Experience working on satellite programs, ideally during phases C/D/E.
  • Strong understanding of navigation payloads, RF systems, telecommunications, or payload performance engineering.
  • Experience coordinating technical activities and interacting with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Experience participating in customer-facing technical discussions and negotiations.
  • Autonomous, proactive, and solution-oriented working style.
  • Fluent English required; German or additional European languages are considered a plus.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally within Europe for technical meetings and test campaigns.

What's Offered

  • Opportunity to work on flagship European space and navigation programs.
  • Exposure to advanced satellite payload technologies and next-generation navigation systems.
  • High-impact engineering role within an internationally recognized aerospace organization.
  • Collaborative and expert-driven engineering environment.
  • Career growth opportunities toward technical leadership or management responsibilities.
  • Flexible hybrid working model 40/60 (home office / onsite)
  • Competitive compensation package aligned with experience and expertise.
