Meteorologists (Remote)
Location: Remote Compensation: $45 -- $55 per hour Engagement Type: Independent Contractor
We are hiring for one of our clients seeking experienced meteorologists to support the training of a large-scale physics-based AI system.
In this role, you will interpret High-Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR) model outputs and generate technically rigorous, structured natural-language explanations of observed atmospheric conditions.
This is a high-judgment expert position ideal for meteorologists comfortable diagnosing synoptic and mesoscale features directly from model fields.
Role Overview
You will analyze single-frame HRRR visualizations (four images per timestamp) and produce clear, technically accurate labels that explain:
- What atmospheric or weather phenomena are present
- Why those phenomena are occurring, based strictly on model-derived data
All analyses must rely solely on HRRR model outputs --- no radar, satellite, or forecast discussion references.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret HRRR outputs at a defined forecast time step
- Identify key synoptic and mesoscale features such as:
- Troughs and ridges
- Jet streaks
- Frontal boundaries
- Instability and convective signals
- Diagnose atmospheric dynamics including:
- Vorticity advection
- Vertical motion and lift mechanisms
- Moisture transport
- Upper-level divergence
- Produce clear, structured, and technically precise written explanations
- Ensure all interpretations are grounded strictly in model data
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science
- OR
- 2 years of operational forecasting experience
- Strong synoptic and mesoscale analysis skills
- Deep understanding of atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics
- Ability to interpret 500 mb and upper-air charts confidently
- Clear, precise technical writing skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting
