About Quouch

Quouch is the travel app built for the LGBTQ community, connecting queer travellers with hosts, hangouts, and queer-friendly places around the world. We're a small, mission-driven team based in Berlin, building something that genuinely matters to the community.

We're at an exciting point in our journey: a growing user base, a subscription model that's gaining traction, and a product roadmap that touches real people's lives. Now we need a brilliant engineer to help us scale it.

The Role

This is a high-impact, high-ownership role. You'll be shipping to our Flutter app, keeping our Rails backend humming, and supporting in keeping our small team unblocked. You'll work directly with our CEO and Growth team, translating product goals into technical decisions and shipping quality features without a committee.

What You'll Do

  • Understand the full technical stack: Flutter (mobile), Ruby on Rails (backend), Firebase, Stripe integrations
  • Ship features end-to-end, from scoping and architecture to App Store release
  • Make and clearly communicate trade-offs: speed vs. robustness, build vs. buy, now vs. later
  • Embed AI tooling into your workflow to multiply your output - and help the broader team do the same, we're a small team with a lot to do
  • Reduce single-engineer bottlenecks by building systems and processes that let non-technical teammates move faster
  • Contribute to design decisions: UI, UX flows, and visual quality - with no dedicated designer, your taste matters
  • Keep quality high: performance, reliability, and a seamless experience for our users
  • Navigate the App Store and Google Play release process confidently and independently

You'll Thrive Here If You

  • Have experience at a B2C mobile product company
  • Are genuinely AI-native: you have a personal AI workflow that makes you faster, and you think critically about when to use it and when not to
  • Have shipped Flutter apps - you know the framework, the quirks, and the release process
  • Have a genuine design eye - you can look at a screen and know when something feels off, and you know how to fix it. You've shipped UI you're proud of, not just UI that works
  • Put the user first instinctively: you read community feedback, you think about edge cases real people hit, and "good enough" doesn't sit well with you if the person on the other end would notice
  • Are comfortable in Ruby on Rails and understand how to design clean, maintainable APIs
  • Can hold the full product in your head and make sensible decisions without perfect information
  • Communicate technical complexity clearly to non-engineers - not to impress, but to enable
  • Care about the queer community, or are genuinely curious about building for underserved audiences
  • Default to doing, not deliberating

Stack

  • Flutter
  • Ruby on Rails
  • Firebase
  • Firestore
  • Stripe
  • Map integrations
  • In-app purchases (iOS & Android)

What To Expect

  • A meaningful product with a community that genuinely cares
  • Real ownership and influence over technical direction
  • A small, thoughtful team with no bureaucracy
  • Flexible, hybrid working - you can be based anywhere, but of course we'd love to have you in our Berlin Kreuzberg office whenever it fits 💜

A Note on Who We Are

Quouch is a queer-founded company. We especially encourage applications from LGBTQ people, people of colour, and others who are underrepresented in tech. Feel free to reach out even if you just tick some of the boxes - we'd love to hear from you!
