Job Description

Shopware is a leading ecommerce system that enables companies worldwide to scale quickly and efficiently in digital commerce. As a trendsetting open‑source solution, Shopware is already used by some of the largest European brands, retailers, and manufacturers across B2C and B2B.

The position is part of IT Operations, within the IT Infrastructure team, which is responsible for shopware AG's internal IT infrastructure. As IT Infrastructure Architect -- Cloud Focus (m/f/d), you own the vision and architecture of Shopware's internal infrastructure. You will plan and drive the cloud migration of remaining on‑prem environments, define the network and security architecture, and shape standards, governance, and budgets. With room to design, implement, and iterate, you will help build a future‑ready internal platform, from foundations to operations.

This position can be filled on-site, hybrid, but also full-remote within Germany. Your work location will be agreed upon in advance and forms the basis of your employment contract.

These are your tasks:

  • You take end‑to‑end ownership of our infrastructure vision and roadmap, how components connect today and how they should evolve.
  • By migrating on‑premises environments to the cloud (AWS), you modernise the internal infrastructure and de‑risk internal services; along the way, you define patterns and guardrails others can reuse.
  • You design and evolve our network infrastructure and ensure segmentation, resilience, and operability.
  • You review and raise the bar on monitoring, backup/restore, and observability (e.g., PRTG, Datadog, AWS CloudWatch) to guarantee reliability and recovery.
  • Together with our IT Security Specialist and the Information Security Officer, you translate security requirements into practical controls, from firewall policies to identity and access (e.g., Azure AD/ID, Local AD).
  • You plan and track the infrastructure budget, optimise cloud costs, and make data‑informed build‑vs‑buy decisions.
  • Hands‑on work remains part of the job: You support migrations, pair with Cloud Engineers, and help resolve complex incidents where architectural context is crucial.
  • You lead projects and, when needed, guide small project teams functionally to deliver milestones on time and to standard.
  • You collaborate closely with internal stakeholders (Team Lead IT Administration, the full IT Infrastructure team) and cross‑functional partners inside Shopware (e.g. our Information Security Officer & the Product department), aligning plans and sequencing change safely.

This is what you'll bring to the table:

  • You bring 2--3 years in a comparable architecture/lead role across cloud and on‑prem infrastructure.
  • Your broad technical foundation lets you connect the dots across networks, identity, compute, storage, backup/DR, and security, and make pragmatic, scalable choices.
  • Cloud proficiency, especially with AWS, and familiarity with vCenter, Azure AD/ID and Local AD enable you to steer migrations and hybrid setups with confidence.
  • You're fluent across IaC, enterprise networking, VPN, and monitoring stacks; we run Terraform, SonicWall, Cisco Meraki, Tailscale, and PRTG/Datadog/CloudWatch, but experience with comparable tools is equally valuable.
  • Strong planning and stakeholder management skills help you coordinate roadmaps, anticipate bottlenecks, and drive accountability and timely execution.
  • You work effectively with security stakeholders to translate policies into enforceable, auditable controls across the stack.
  • Communication is a core strength. You can explain complex trade‑offs clearly, tailor messages from exec briefings to technical specs, and align diverse teams behind the plan.
  • Excellent English (written and spoken) is required; German is a strong plus but not mandatory.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to our Schöppingen campus completes your profile.

This is what we offer you:

  • Company Culture: Open culture with flat hierarchies, where individual initiative is encouraged.
  • Employment Contracts: Permanent positions that offer long-term security.
  • Flexibility: Flexible working hours and options for mobile work and full-remote contracts.
  • Equipment: Freedom to choose your preferred work hardware.
  • Onboarding: Well-structured onboarding with support from a personal "buddy."
  • Work Environment: An inspiring environment with dedicated colleagues and a dynamic community.
  • Development Opportunities: Diverse opportunities for personal growth and development.
  • Additional Benefits: Attractive perks such as company pension plans, health programs, and regular team events.
  • and much more!
