Freelance Accountant (Netsuite)

Introduction to the Position

A fast-growing FMCG company is seeking a Freelance Senior Accountant to support its expanding finance team during a critical growth phase. Operating across Europe and the USA, the company sells through e-commerce platforms, pop-up stores, and retail locations, and is implementing a new ERP system to streamline its operations.

This role will work closely with the Head of Accounting and the in-house finance team, providing hands-on expertise in inventory and cost accounting, revenue reconciliation, and ERP-related finance activities, while bridging the gap until a permanent senior hire is appointed. The Senior Accountant will take ownership of key operational tasks, ensuring smooth financial processes and supporting the team during a pivotal stage of international growth.

This is a freelance role based in Germany with a hybrid working model, requiring a minimum of three office days per week. Immediate start is preferred, and the position offers salary guidance of up to €75,000 per year equivalent, depending on experience and market conditions.

Your Responsibilities

• Take ownership of inventory and cost accounting, ensuring accurate tracking of goods sold and materials
• Manage revenue bookings and reconciliations across all sales channels, including e-commerce platforms
• Assist the Head of Accounting with ERP-related finance activities, including NetSuite implementation support, purchase order tracking, and coordination with logistics and operations teams
• Collaborate with external ERP implementation partners to ensure accurate project setup and process alignment
• Guide and support mid-level accounting staff in daily operations and project-specific tasks
• Support month-end and year-end closing processes to meet business targets
• Gradually take over operational tasks currently handled manually by the Head of Accounting

Desired Qualifications

• Proven experience in inventory, cost accounting, and revenue recognition in a goods-based business
• Strong analytical and operational accounting skills, including reconciliations and reporting
• Familiarity with ERP systems, with NetSuite or similar systems preferred
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Experience supervising or guiding junior or mid-level staff is desirable
• Fluent in English; German is a plus, particularly for interactions with local authorities
• Proactive, hands-on approach and ability to thrive in a growing, dynamic finance team
