About the Role

The Cloud Database Engineer is responsible for designing, deploying, and operating cloud-based PostgreSQL database services within Kubernetes environments. This role focuses on database automation, cloud infrastructure, high availability, and platform reliability while collaborating closely with Kubernetes, development, quality assurance, and operations teams to deliver scalable and secure database solutions.

Location: Koblenz, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany (Hybrid)

Responsibilities

Cloud Database Administration

  • Build, deploy, and manage PostgreSQL database services in Kubernetes environments.
  • Ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of database platforms.
  • Monitor and maintain production database environments.
  • Optimize database performance and operational efficiency.
  • Support the continuous improvement of cloud database services.
  • Ensure reliable data availability across cloud environments.

Automation & Infrastructure

  • Develop and implement automation for database deployment and operations.
  • Utilize GitOps methodologies for infrastructure management.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.
  • Improve deployment consistency through automation frameworks.
  • Streamline operational workflows and maintenance processes.
  • Support scalable cloud infrastructure development.

Kubernetes & Cloud Platform Engineering

  • Collaborate closely with the Managed Kubernetes team.
  • Integrate PostgreSQL services into Kubernetes infrastructure.
  • Build and enhance cloud-native database services.
  • Support deployment across private cloud environments.
  • Contribute to cloud platform architecture and service expansion.
  • Ensure seamless integration between database and cloud platforms.

Database Maintenance & Security

  • Plan and implement database updates, security patches, and new releases.
  • Maintain database stability throughout upgrade processes.
  • Ensure database security and operational compliance.
  • Support version management and release planning.
  • Identify and resolve database-related issues.
  • Maintain documentation for database services and operational procedures.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with development, quality assurance, and operations teams.
  • Provide database expertise across multiple business units.
  • Support technical problem-solving and infrastructure improvements.
  • Participate in platform enhancement initiatives.
  • Share technical knowledge and best practices within the engineering team.
  • Contribute to continuous innovation across cloud technologies.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Completed degree or vocational qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cloud Computing, System Integration, or a related field.
  • Strong experience with PostgreSQL database administration.
  • Solid knowledge of Kubernetes.
  • Experience deploying and managing cloud database services.
  • Strong understanding of Linux operating systems.
  • Excellent German language skills.
  • Strong English language skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Structured and detail-oriented working approach.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PostgreSQL High Availability (HA) solutions.
  • Experience with OpenStack.
  • Knowledge of GitOps methodologies.
  • Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Experience working with private cloud environments.
  • Interest in cloud technologies and AI-driven healthcare solutions.
