Your Personal Scope:

Your future position is at the Institute of Political Science in the research area of Political Theory. The Institute of Political Science, a subunit of the Faculty of Social Sciences, conducts research and teaches in all core areas of political science, develops innovative and problem-oriented research priorities, and offers diverse specialization opportunities in its study programs. The institute's staff members investigate the changes in forms and functions of governance, state, and democracy in various policy fields, geographical regions, and political spaces. In the field of Political Theory, we aim to cover the spectrum of Political Theory in its breadth in research and teaching. Our particular focus is on (radical) democratic theories as well as hegemonic, post-structuralist, and critical approaches. Another important area of work is the history of political ideas, ideologies, and concepts. We understand Political Theory as a vibrant field of debate that sharpens our view of societal and political challenges. As a University Assistant Prae Doc, you will complement the research team in the field of Political Theory. The team currently consists of eight postdocs, praedocs, and administrative colleagues.

Your Specific Tasks:

You will actively participate in research, teaching, and administration in the field of Political Theory (Univ.-Prof. Dr. Oliver Marchart), which includes:

  • Participation in research projects
  • Contribution to publications / scientific articles / presentation activities
  • Contribution to the development of a media platform for political theory
  • Contribution to the organization of conferences, symposia
  • Project application and acquisition of third-party funding We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months. You will independently conduct courses to the extent of collectively agreed-upon regulations.
  • Student support
  • You will undertake administrative tasks in institute, teaching, and research administration.

Your Personality Traits:

  • Completed Master's/Diploma degree in Political Science or a related field with a focus on Political Theory
  • High level of expertise in the history of political ideas and contemporary political theory with a focus on critical and radical democratic approaches
  • Didactic competencies
  • PC user skills
  • Excellent English and German language skills (C1)
  • You are a team player with high social/communicative competence

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience / experience with e-learning
  • Knowledge of university processes and structures
  • International experience
  • Initial experience in academic work
