Embedded Developer - part-time

Your mission

Role Wattstor is seeking a talented Python developer to join its Embedded Team responsible for developing and maintaining Wattstor's energy management system. In this role, you will develop and optimize control logic for energy flows and facilitate communication with external devices over ethernet, such as EV chargers, battery storage systems, photovoltaic inverters, heat pumps, etc. The main focus is on real-time management and monitoring, with code execution on edge controller devices. Our development environment is based on Ubuntu Linux and Python. We maintain a dedicated testing laboratory for integration and testing purposes.

This part-time role is open both for talented students and experienced developers.

Your profile

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Fluency in Python and experience with Linux
• Understanding of the importance of testing and appreciation for test-driven development
• Ability to write testable and well documented code
• Proficiency in Git workflows (e.g. pull requests, code reviews, branching strategies)
• Strong English communication skills for technical discussions and documentation
• Ability to drive projects to completion
• Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate within a team

Desirable Skills and Qualifications

• Experience with test-driven development and/or software-in-the-loop testing
• Background in the energy industry
• Knowledge of communication protocols and standards such as Modbus, OCPP, and RS485
• Familiarity with tools and technologies such as Docker, JavaScript, ZeroMQ, and SQL/SQL-like databases (e.g. SQLite, InfluxDB)
• Experience migrating codebases from Python 2 to Python 3
