Cloud Data Engineer – GCP | Contract Role

Location: Germany (Munich / Frankfurt) -- Hybrid (2--3 Days Onsite)

Work Mode: Contract (3 Months, Extendable)

Work Hours: 9:00 AM -- 6:00 PM (Germany Time)

Travel: 1--2 Trips/Month within Germany

Rate: Up to $70 USD/hour (All Inclusive)

About The Role

We are hiring a Cloud Data Engineer with strong Google Cloud Platform (GCP) expertise to support enterprise-scale data transformation initiatives. This is a client-facing consulting role, working closely with strategic cloud customers to design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouses on GCP.

The ideal candidate will have experience across the end-to-end data lifecycle, including data ingestion, transformation, processing, and analytics, along with strong exposure to BigQuery and Ab Initio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize high-performance data pipelines (batch & streaming) on GCP
  • Build and manage scalable data lakes and data warehouses using BigQuery
  • Lead data migration and transformation projects (on-prem / legacy to GCP)
  • Develop cloud-native data architectures for large-scale enterprise environments
  • Implement ETL/ELT pipelines using Ab Initio and GCP services
  • Ensure data quality, governance, security, and performance optimization
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and cross-functional teams
  • Support CI/CD pipelines, DevOps automation, and infrastructure provisioning
  • Work directly with clients in a consulting and solution delivery capacity

Required Skills & Experience (5 Years)

  • 5 years of experience in Data Engineering / Big Data / Cloud Data Platforms
  • Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Expertise in BigQuery (data modeling, SQL optimization, performance tuning)
  • Experience with Ab Initio (ETL development, data processing, migration)
  • Proven experience in building data lakes, data warehouses, and scalable data pipelines
  • Hands-on experience with streaming and batch data processing frameworks
  • Experience with CI/CD, DevOps practices, and infrastructure automation
  • Strong SQL skills and query performance optimization
  • Experience in cloud data migration and transformation projects
  • Excellent communication skills in English and German (Mandatory)
  • Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer Certification (Preferred / Required)

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with GCP services like Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Dataproc, Composer (Airflow)
  • Strong understanding of event-driven architecture and streaming pipelines
  • Experience in technical consulting / client-facing roles
  • Exposure to large-scale, enterprise-grade data platforms
  • Ability to design cost-optimized and high-performance cloud solutions

Eligibility Criteria

  • German-speaking candidates (Fluent/Professional level preferred)
  • Candidates based in Germany or Europe, willing to travel to Germany
  • Comfortable with Hybrid work model (2--3 days onsite per week)
  • Immediate to 30 days notice period candidates preferred
