Your Profile

• Native Japanese speaker with professional proficiency in English, located in Japan
• Degree in translation, linguistics or a related field
• 3+ years of experience in translation, localization or LQA, preferably in digital products or apps
• Experience in web and app localization, marketing or culinary content is a plus
• Skilled in transcreation, particularly for marketing and promotional content, and adept at adapting messages for local culture and context
• A deep understanding of Japanese cultural nuances is essential for effective localization and ensuring that content is appropriate and engaging for local audiences
• Possess exceptional knowledge of Japanese grammar, a fluent, adaptable writing style suited to various content needs and the ability to craft clear and compelling content
• Proven ability to manage time effectively, meet deadlines and adapt to varying workloads and project demands
• Knowledge of localization tools and platforms, particularly Phrase TMS and Strings
• Work well independently but can also collaborate effectively with remote teams across different time zones

Your Mission

As a freelance Japanese LQA Specialist at YAZIO, your mission is to ensure all Japanese-language content is accurate, consistent and culturally relevant across our digital platforms. Your expertise in language, culture and user behavior will be key to delivering a high-quality, engaging experience for our Japanese-speaking users.

You will:

• Provide essential linguistic insights that influence content strategy and product decisions. Your deep understanding of Japanese culture will ensure all content is culturally appropriate and optimized for engagement and clarity.
• Review and adapt our app interfaces, marketing materials and promotional content in Japanese, ensuring every piece is engaging, accessible and relevant to Japanese audiences.
• Provide culturally specific feedback and suggestions to improve overall localization quality.
• Help refine and update our Japanese linguistic assets, including style guides and term bases, to ensure clarity, engagement and relevance across all content types.
• Focus on reviewing localized content such as recipes, UX copy and marketing materials to ensure linguistic accuracy, cultural relevance and consistency with YAZIO's brand voice.
• Your expertise in the Japanese language and culture will be essential for validating terminology, correcting errors and maintaining the quality of our local user experience.
• Collaborate with translators, proofreaders and localization quality managers to resolve language-related issues, provide strategic linguistic feedback and support quality checks.

You can expect a workload of up to 6 hours per week. However, this may vary depending on season and stakeholder needs.
