About the Role

Our client is an internationally operating technology company based in Munich, specializing in highly secure identity solutions, biometric systems, and digital payment and currency technologies for governmental institutions and central banks. The company supports governments from strategic consulting through to the delivery of complex turnkey platform solutions. The focus lies on security critical systems with the highest standards in scalability, stability, and quality.

For the further development of a core platform solution, we are looking for an Engineering Manager or Team Lead with a strong Java background. The role combines approximately 70 percent leadership and 30 percent active development. We are seeking a technically grounded professional who takes ownership of delivery, structures processes effectively, and remains hands on in the code.

Your Responsibilities

• Lead and develop an engineering team in both technical and disciplinary matters
• Own and optimize the full Software Development Life Cycle from planning and testing to deployment
• Ensure high quality standards through unit testing, integration testing, load testing, and automation
• Oversee stable development, staging, and production environments
• Drive agile processes within a ScrumBan framework
• Lead daily stand ups, backlog refinements, and sprint planning sessions
• Take ownership of release cycles including quality assurance and structured deployment processes
• Ensure proper documentation, for example in Confluence
• Contribute actively to backend development with around 30 percent hands on coding
• Conduct code reviews and support technical decision making in close collaboration with architects and product owners

Your Profile

• 8 to 14 years of professional experience in software development with a maximum of 15 years in IT overall
• 2 to 4 years of experience as a Team Lead or Engineering Manager
• Strong Java background with modern versions starting from Java 21 with a perspective towards Java 26
• Solid experience with Spring Boot, AWS, and Docker ideally including Docker Swarm
• Good knowledge of Kubernetes and Elasticsearch is a plus
• Experience working within structured SDLC processes and defined testing strategies
• Strong understanding of production environments in both cloud and on premise contexts
• Clear backend and infrastructure focus
• Hands on mindset with a strong quality driven approach
• Fluent English communication skills
