About Us
Hey, we are Active Fungus Studios! We make first- and third-person building games with a realistic look. We are currently planning the next big step: Our Inspector Schmidt series as well as future titles are to conquer the consoles. For this, we are looking for a Coder:in / Unreal Developer:in who can safely bring our games to PS5 and Xbox.
Your Responsibilities
- You will be responsible for the porting and technical adaptation of our titles for PS5 and Xbox.
- Platform Integration: You will implement the specific interfaces for PS5 and Xbox (user login, savegame handling, controller vibration/haptics).
- Compliance Check: You will ensure that the games meet the technical guidelines (TRCs at Sony, XRGs at Microsoft) so that we master the certification process on the first attempt.
- Performance Tuning: You will analyze bottlenecks using tools like Unreal Insights or platform-specific profilers (e.g., PIX) to guarantee stable 30/60 FPS on the target platforms.
- Input System Migration: You will adapt the controls of our building games (which are partly mouse-focused) to a smooth, intuitive gamepad experience.
- Store Preparation: You will assist with the technical preparation of builds for the PlayStation DevNet and the Microsoft GDK.
- You will work with the Unreal Engine on gameplay, system, and especially platform features.
- You will work closely with the team to ensure that new features are designed to be "console-ready" from the outset.
What's Important to Us
- In-depth experience with the Unreal Engine and a very good understanding of Blueprints.
- Experience in porting: You have ideally already published games on PS5 or Xbox and have already gained experience with the Sony SDK and/or the Microsoft GDK.
- Performance Focus: You know how to use CPU and GPU efficiently and where the pitfalls lie with consoles.
- Structure: You have an eye for "Console-friendly Design" (readability of texts on TV, UI safe zones, etc.).
- Blueprint Architect: Since we primarily work in Blueprints, you can abstract complex logic so that platform-specific differences (e.g., button prompts for PS vs. Xbox) are cleanly separated.
- Solution Orientation: You are not deterred by cryptic error messages in the dev kits and find ways to make our PC systems console-ready.
- Team Player Mentality: You can discuss your decisions and enjoy working across disciplines.
- Self-Organization: You see the big picture and can independently prioritize technical work steps.
- Language: German is our everyday language in the team (perfect German is not necessary).
Nice to Have
- Good C knowledge (helpful for platform-specific adjustments).
- Experience with profiling tools (Unreal Insights, RenderDoc, etc.).
- Experience in the genre (building/simulation) and with a realistic look.
- Knowledge of Agile/Scrum in a creative environment.
How We Work
- Full Remote, but located in Bavaria.
- Remote here doesn't mean radio silence, but exchange, transparency, and togetherness.
- We organize ourselves and avoid unnecessary hierarchies.
