Interactive Data Analysis and Visualisation intern
Our Mission
Our mission is to collect informed data to gain new knowledge. Each team member combines her/his strengths, interests, and network to co-create new answers while honoring inclusivity across different mindsets. ImpactCircles has been a registered organization in Berlin since 2017 (previously known as helpU e.V.).
Call for Applications: Unpaid Research Internship
ImpactCircles e.V. is seeking science journalism interns to join a dynamic portfolio of projects focused on disseminating research on responsible innovation, digital governance, and sustainable urban development. We are especially interested in candidates passionate about AI policy, online safety, and data privacy, with a critical lens on how these issues play out across European and African contexts.
Our research spans a diverse set of fields, including:
- Artificial Intelligence, Data Ethics, and Algorithmic Accountability
- Human-Computer and Human-Robot Interaction
- Online Safety and Child Protection in Digital Environments
- Smart Cities, IoT, and Urban Digital Infrastructure
- Geospatial Data, Earth Observation, and Spatial Justice
- Climate AI and Resilience Planning
- Gamification, Serious Games, and Educational Technologies
- Circularity, SDGs, and Sustainability Transitions
- Media, Communication, and Technopolitics
A core focus of our work is on comparative insights between Europe and Africa—exploring how digital policies, AI strategies, and online safety frameworks differ, align, or conflict across diverse socio-political and technological ecosystems. We investigate themes like digital sovereignty, cross-border data governance, and the localization of global AI norms. Interns will support qualitative and quantitative research, data visualization, and policy analysis. They may also assist in preparing grant applications, co-authoring publications, and designing participatory engagements with local communities, technologists, and policymakers.
We welcome applications from students and early-career researchers with backgrounds in urban studies, computer science, digital media, law, sociology, or environmental studies, particularly those interested in transcontinental collaboration and justice-oriented tech policy.
At Impact Circles, we are driven by the power of the collective. Each member combines their strengths, interests, and network to co-create new answers while honoring inclusivity across different mindsets. Our slogan is 'One for all and All for one,' and for that, our culture is to start working together on making the individual goals of our members met through being part of our team. To achieve this, the position begins with one-on-one documentation of the intern's goals for the internship.
