Lead Data Engineer

Role Summary

For our SaaS Client we are looking for a Tech Lead (Python) with a strong data engineering background to support the design, implementation, and evolution of a scalable data platform. The role combines hands-on development with technical leadership and close collaboration across engineering and product teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable data pipelines (Python, SQL)
• Contribute to architectural decisions for batch and streaming systems
• Lead by example through hands-on coding and code reviews
• Define engineering best practices (quality, testing, documentation)
• Support data reliability, monitoring, and operational stability
• Translate business and product requirements into technical solutions
• Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance

Core Requirements

• Strong experience with Python (ideally incl. PySpark)
• Solid understanding of data engineering & data platform architectures
• Experience with streaming and batch processing concepts
• Advanced SQL skills
• Experience with containerized or cloud-based environments
• Familiarity with CI/CD and modern engineering workflows
• Experience in senior engineering or tech lead--type roles

Nice to Have

• Experience with modern data stacks or lakehouse concepts
• Exposure to data quality, observability, or governance topics
• Experience in complex, large-scale, or regulated environments
• German language skills (not required)
